In vicinities of Venice in own lock there lives marquis of the Luca Maria Bardi (Marcello Mastroianni). It is known for that takes a great interest in flights by a balloon, cultivation of rare grades of tulips and game on a violoncello. In the whole days it conducts gallant conversations with imagined wife Luisa (Claudia Mori). Everyone know, that the wife at marquis is not present and consider to its madwomen. Agents of the company decide to declare marquis madman and to buy the lock by means of the aunt (Flora Carabella).
